Massachusetts DOT : Norton Rail-Trail

Mansfield, MA

The Norton Rail-Trail is a 5-mile multi-use path running from Mansfield through Norton, MA. To protect nearby conservation land and wetlands, RICON and DEM followed preservation
protocols, including planting six restoration patches and adhering to noise restrictions for neighboring communities and horse farms. Most of the trail was re-graded with gravel, and
new drainage, curbing, and paving were completed, including a 1-mile roadwork section over Interstate 495. Amenities installed include red light crossings, pedestrian crosswalks, trash cans, bike racks, benches, and interpretive kiosks.

Town of North Kingstown: Waterfront Improvements

North Kingstown, RI

Previously initiated by another contractor and left incomplete for several months, RICON promptly mobilized to restore the historic stone seawall and adjacent parking lot in Wickford. Work included restoring seawall stonework, removal more than 25 steel sheet piles, installation of a geo-grid, permeable pavers, curbing, sidewalks, and repaving. By phasing drainage replacement and parking lot upgrades, areas of the lot remained open to patrons. Work was executed within a challenging summer schedule, while ensuring the safety of patrons.

RIAC: T.F. Green Terminal & Tarmac Projects

Warwick, RI

RICON is supporting TF Green Airport with on-going facility improvements and maintenance, including repairs to the external terminal apron gate, runway grading, paving, and the installation of an internal water line at a cargo gate to support a new fire suppression system. Effective management of safety and security protocols were critical when working on emergency runway repairs within short notice requirements, including off-hours and weekends.

RIPTA: Community College of RI Traffic Improvements

Warwick, RI

The exterior traffic improvements project included removal of existing structures and curbing, as well as replacing bus and pedestrian canopies. RICON worked with the school to coordinate traffic patterns to minimize disruption. Four shelters were installed with ADA-compliant features, including a pedestrian ramp. The work was executive in a phased delivery approach and followed a 12-week accelerated timeline to accommodate CCRI’s schedule.

RIPTA: East Side Tunnel Repairs

East Providence, RI

This 3,000-foot tunnel, built in 1914, enables buses to travel through the city of Providence, RI and remains operational during winter weather. RICON supported the upgrade of the tunnel drainage systems for both the roadway and surface runoff, as well as reinforcement of the existing steel structure at the tunnel entrance. A new lighting system was installed, and a fire suppression system was added to enhance safety for individuals using the tunnel during emergencies.

Kent County Water Authority: Administration & Maintenance Facility

West Greenwich, RI

RICON executed significant sitework for this development of a previously wooded lot. The site lays adjacent to freshwater wetlands and required consistent maintenance to the Soil and Erosion Control Plan and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. The site was prepared for the construction of a 30,000 sf Pre-Engineered Metal Building housing a maintenance garage and a 16,000 sf Administrative Building.

RICON redeveloped an existing parking lot, creating two pad-ready sites for future restaurant establishments. On-site pulverization of existing materials generated gravel repurposed for the construction of two retention ponds. Installation of 2,000-feet of new drainage, waterline, and sewer infrastructure, along with integration of utilities (new electrical and lighting) with the existing restaurant and two additional pads. Construction of a 10-foot x 175-foot Versa-Lok retaining wall and installation of 2,500-feet of curbing and lot paving.

Town of North Kingstown: Wilson Park

North Kingstown, RI

Centrally located in downtown Wickford, RI, this project served to enhance the walking paths and access to the fields at Wilson Park. RICON seamlessly removed existing asphalt walkways, regraded and repaved all walking paths. All work was completed without limiting parking at the park and without impacting the surrounding playground, basketball courts and fields.

The Prout School: Athletic Fields

Wakefield, RI

Prepared an existing lot for a new multi-surface field for soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse. RICON stripped loam, cleared trees, and constructed a large retaining wall. Graded the lot for turf installation and widened and resurfaced the parking area with curbing and sidewalks.
